Paul Lambert: I don’t mind where Christian Benteke goes as long as he gives me tickets

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has demonstrated his laid back attitude towards his squad, admitting the only thing he demands of his players is that they supply him with match tickets when he’s older.
The Scot was discussing Christian Benteke’s future at Villa Park, with the Belgian international – yesterday  in the summer.
Lambert signed Benteke for £7m at the beginning of the season but says he wants no credit for spotting the 22-year-old, who has netted 19 times for Villa this term and insists he won’t demand the forward remains at Villa, only that he sends tickets in the future.
‘The game’s never about myself it’s about the lads and the ones that come and do it,’ said Lambert. ‘I get great satisfaction of seeing lads perform, doing great for themselves and making massive careers for themselves.
‘Once we’ve got them in the door the rest is up to them. They’re the ones that go and do it week in week out so.

That’s the only thing I’ll ask him – just get me a ticket to a game.
‘I don’t mind because it’s not about me, it’s about him and the team. I don’t worry about the fact that we saw him and gave him an opportunity.’
Despite a run of good results, Villa are still rooted in a relegation battle and face a tough trip to Manchester United on Monday night.
