According to reports in Italy, City have made securing a deal for Uruguay star Cavani their top priority in the summer as they bid to mount a serious title challenge.
Napoli have always denied they will consider selling their top scorer, who has bagged 71 goals in just 98 matches following his arrival from Palermo in 2007.
and now City have promised to pay him over £65million over the course of a five-year deal if he moves to the Etihad Stadium.
Carlos Tevez is currently the highest-paid player at City, but the Daily Mail suggests Cavani would eclipse him with a £256,000-a-week salary – equating to £13.3million a year.
The remarkable pay packet would be on top of any transfer fee, which is likely to be close to his £52million asking price, meaning a final amount of £117million for a striker regarded as one of the best around.
The deal, that would be solely funded by their Qatari owners, would not fall in line with Financial Fair Play, meaning sales may have to be made to balance the books.
Sergio Aguero has been strongly linked with Real Madrid
Cavani has a contract with Napoli until 2017.
