THE UFC will introduce the women’s featherweight division on February 11 in Brooklyn, New York with a new champion being crowned that night.
UFC officials announced the new matchup on Tuesday night.
Holm will look to capture her second UFC title while also trying to stop a two fight skid following consecutive losses to Miesha Tate and Valentina Shevchenko.
The former boxing champion knocked out Ronda Rousey to capture the UFC women’s title at 61kg last November, but came up short in her first defence in March. Now Holm will bump up to a new division with her first fight at 65kg taking place with a title on the line.
Meanwhile, de Randamie will enter the bout on a two fight winning streak and a 3-1 record overall in the UFC.
As a former kickboxer, de Randamie brings a very dangerous skill set to the new featherweight division as she faces Holm with a chance to win UFC gold for the first time.
Of course the winner of the bout between Holm and de Randamie will undoubtedly end up facing Cris “Cyborg” Justino, who is routinely regarded as the best women’s featherweight fighter on the planet.
Cyborg was offered the fight for UFC 208, but turned it down due to her body still recovering from a difficult weight cut to make 63kg for her last bout in the Octagon this past September.
More fights will be added to UFC 208 in the coming weeks with tickets on sale Dec. 16.
